Which one do you prefer? The Clone War or the Robot Army?

In Bell’s “Next Arms Race”, we may get a better idea about what really consititue the Weapon of Mass Destruction. Or perhaps a more appropriate name - “Weapon of Human Destruction”.

“Hermes and other robots are being tested by a few different military companies and will be left behind to assist U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Present-day cloning, nanotechnology, and robotics research are beginning to blur the lines between human and machine. Laboratory-created biotech organisms, cloned life forms, and advanced robotic machines are proliferating around the globe. As these technologies advance they begin to represent a great challenge to the political order and stability of the world. This is why the U.S. military, and other militaries, is aggressively backing research into many of these new technologies.”

As for the flying “W” - a robot plane made possible by George W. Bush’s increase in the military?s already massive budget, it is expected to be able to begin attack by 2007 according to military analysts. By 2010, they will be programmed to distinguish friends from foes without consulting humans and independently attack targets in designated areas.

The day is not far when a human might shoot a robot only to see it bleed from its wound and when the robot shot back, it may be surprised to find the human gush smoke.

Instead of helping those children who are dying in hunger one in every 5 seconds (by the time I finish this blog, 50 children will be dead), we choose to commit our valubable resources in developing this fancy toy. If we need it so desperately, we will get it. And if this is the way we value human lives, we will eliminate them.
