No Tomorrow

Once Israel has occupied the rest of its “biblical lands,” legions of the antichrist will attack it, triggering a final showdown in the valley of Armageddon.

Check out the Rapture Index daily and get ready for the tribulation.

Record ice lost in the Artic is to be welcomed.

Deforestation
, including erosion caused by men, rivers, contanimation, toxic waste and devastation are to be welcomed.

Its all about end time and the second coming. And this is not funny.

A Poem - In Celebration of the Birth of Democracy

Iraqis are all eager to vote, not unlike any one of us. Bush hailed it as a ‘resounding success’ as voters across the country made their way to the polls on Sunday.

Imagine bombing Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas just before holding the Nov 2, 2004 election. And Bush/Kerry couldn’t do much, if any, campaigning due to security reasons. This would make the US election as representative and as democratic as the Jan 30, 2005 election in Iraq. Iraqi were casting their votes on a set of pre-determined lists containing candidates who had little chance to make known what sort of platforms they were campaigning on. In fact, some candidates running on the lists had to remain anonymous because of security concerns. The votes were largely casted based on ethnic origin of the candidates. And one does not have to live in Florida for not being able to vote:

Had you been birds, your disappearance might have caused much more outrage. You could have flown en masse over a metropolis and clouded its skies for a few hours in protest. Meteorologists and bird- watchers surely would have noticed.

Had you been trees, you would have made a beautiful forest the destruction of which would have been deemed a crime against the planet.

Had you been words, you would have formed a precious book or manuscript the loss of which would be mourned across the world.

But you are none of these. And you had to pass quietly and uneventfully.

No one will campaign for you in these elections.

No one cares to represent you.

No absentee ballots have been issued or sent.

You will have to wait decades for a monument, or a tiny museum.

If you are lucky in provoking retroactive guilt your names will be inscribed on a wall somewhere.

But until then, you may welcome more to your midst and form a vast silent chorus of ghosts, condemning the spectators and the actors.

Too Much

It is no doubt a huge disappointment after the second blood sample taken from Waterford Crystal confirmed banned substances. The Gold medal is tarnished whatever further action Cian O’Connor is contemplating to take and whatever the outcome will be.

The whole fiasco began after the first blood sample was confirmed positive. Then events became alternating between delays and surprises: Garda stations break-in, files stolen, ‘B’ sample lost in lab….. My advice is “Forget It”. Further appeal will only make a mockery of ourselves. It’s a disppointment and let’s don’t make it into disappointed joke.

It’s a nice horse. crystal.jpg

About Time

It’s less than a week to Nov 2, 2004 and it’s interesting to find out how the Americans will choose their best from the worst.

Sorry there isn’t any Choice C as he is too willing to be humiliated.

False Imprisonment

What Dr Amer Aziz had went through must have been worse than death. How many people have been subjected to similar false imprisionment and interrogaton simply because of their religion or the color of their skin?

Earth

Look at earth from outer space
Everyone must find a place
Give me time and give me space
Give me real, don’t give me fake

Give me strength, reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Give me time give us a kiss
Tell me your own politik

And open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes

Give me one, ‘cause one is best
In confusion, confidence
Give me peace of mind and trust
Don’t forget the rest of us
Give me strength, reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Wounds that heal and cracks that fix
Tell me your own politik

And open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Just open up your eyes

But give me love over, love over, love over this, I …
And give me love over, love over, love over this, I …

~ “Politik”, from Coldplay’s latest CD, “A Rush of Blood to the Head”

What Would Hitler Do?

The economy is tanking.
My poll numbers are, too.
There?s protesters outside my door
All saying they?ve been screwed.

The Europeans hate me.
They call me crude and dumb.
Jim Jeffords left and took my toys
And now I’m feeling glum.

So I call my Dad and ask,
Have you heard the news?
The liberals are fighting back.
Can I use the nukes?

You promised I could be in charge.
You said I’d be top gun.
You said I’d always have my way.
This isn’t any fun.

Poppy’s voice was calm and clear.
He said, Son don’t be blue.
Just stand up straight and ask yourself,
What would Hitler do?

Boy that really took me back
To my childhood years,
When the schoolyard bullies teased me
About my ‘car door’ ears.

And Dad would say Don’t worry, Shrub,
About those big old ears,
That low IQ, that stupid smirk
Just wipe away those tears.

And I’ll tell you a story
About a vast empire
Run by someone just like you
It all started with a fire.?

And Dad would talk of Adolf;
He had big ears too.
They said he’d not amount to much
Cause he never finished school.

But Adolf, he just waited
Until the time was right
And Germany was desperate
To hear a pretty lie.

He showed those Europeans
And those pinko liberals, too.
He got those evil-doers:
The gays, gypsies, and Jews.

And so, Poppy would tell me
Whenever you think you’re through,
just think awhile and ask yourself,
What would Hitler do?

I thanked my Daddy warmly.
And told him I felt swell
Now all I need’s a good excuse
To blow someone to hell.

I know that there?s no Reichstag here.
Dick said so - it must be true.
But this country’s full of buildings.
Hmmmm? what would Hitler do?

Whom Do U Trust

It’s an interesting question - “Whom do We Trust? Bush or UN?” but William Saletan’s article in Slate appears to be a little distorted as it doesn’t recognize the fact that Iraq has NOT been proven a threat, a genuine threat to the US.

No one questions “the US’s assertion of sovereighty”. In its invasion of Afganhanstan after 9/11, UN was never brought up. “Those weak-kneed corruption of Russia, China, and France” did support the US.

The question of trust only arises because the Bush Administration has failed miserably in coming up with a convincing story about Iraqi’s threat.

Even for those of us who choose to accept wholeheartedly what have been put forward, there is an acid test.

The threats allegedly by the Bush Administration can be summarized into: (1) “friend” of Al Qaeda and (2) possession of WMD. On the latter, both Russia and China are in possession of more lethal and greater quantity of WMD. On the former, both Russia and china are trading with Iraq and should be considered as “friends”. If Bush is to be trusted, we should expect an invasion of both Russia and China to follow after a successful invasion of Iraq? And if we just look back into our recent history, what can be said about Saddam is equally applicable to the leader of Russia and China.

If there is no follow-up invasion, the threat argument FAILS.

And finally there is the non-compliance of UN resolution. But we know there will never be any similar resolution for the veto-bearing Russia and China although they may deserve quite a few.

Now that the Congress has just given Bush the screw driver to unscrew his steering wheel before this game of chicken with Saddam begins. Some sugguest that in this game of chicken where two drivers are speeding head on to each other, throwing out your steering wheel visibly in front of your opponent is a strategically winning move. It scares the shit out of the other driver. He gives up and you win with the handbrake still on. I hope these people are right. And I also hope that the other driver will not, after realizing your determination, decide to back up and kill all those innocent bystanders instead of charging ahead.

Family Man

I am just a simple family man. I pay attention to the type of car I drive, the size and location of our house, schooling of my kids, the latest electronic gadget, where to go for our next ski trip. I enjoy reading John Grisham’s ‘The Firm’ rather than Edward Gibbon’s ‘Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire’. When I moved, I packed my ‘Comprehensive Guide to the Producers, Appellations and Wines’ and threw away ‘In Search of Excellence’. I read more about Beckham than Tony Blair and Bush combined.

I really shouldn’t give a damn about what Bush or Blair has to say. There was only one reason for me to read news. From 5:30pm when we began our daily drinking routine in the club to 2am in the morning when we either went home or went on to experience the oldest professional, there were times that the subjects of office politics, gossips, women, hi-fi, football, wines, cigars, cars, antiques or CDs may temporarily run out. At this point, some folks would invariably bring up a current issue. I would have had a hard time pretending to know what’s going on around us or what they were talking about if I didn’t read some news.

A war won’t bother me a bit. I don’t have any relatives in the army neither do I have any Muslim friends. Some say they may blow us with whatever WMD they have but I really doubt it. People are just plain stupid and don’t use their common sense. It is just like this story about 3 Arabs who were allegedly being overheard in a café ·hen planning some sorts of terrorist attack. The Florida highway had to be closed for 17 hours after one of the waitress alerted the police. Oh man, did these Arabs really discuss their plan in English?

Now if Saddam has any WMD, he will, in all likelihood, use them within the first 2 hours after Baghdad is under attack. Unless of course we drop the Big One, it is practically not feasible to take over Baghdad in a matter of 2 hours. So there is one eventuality, Saddam will start firing whatever short-range, mid-range, long-range missiles he has carrying possibly nuclear or biological warheads. One doesn?t even have to foresee this scenario because this will be the only scenario.

But we are safe.

The US administration may not be as intelligent as we wish them to be, they may not be as determined to fix their own failing economy as sending their fellow Americans to a war which only they themselves and the Brits consider to be a just war, they may not even know as much history as a Grade 10 student. But certainly before they attempt this formidable feat to eliminate terrorism - something no one in the history of humankind was able to achieve, they must know that any responses from Saddam will be well within their calculations and will be effectively neutralized. They wouldn’t risk it if they are not confident. I am therefore fully convinced that all these missiles, even if fired, will be successfully intercepted.

However, as to the follow-up question: ‘The US has to be confident that any missiles fired by Saddam or any terrorist acts committed by Saddam in response to an invasion can be successfully intercepted, within a short period of time. For if not, the war will easily get out of hand. But if these measurers are in place, can they not be implemented without a war?’ This I don’t know.

As a simple man, why am I bother to make all these noises? Idiot wind or just a big bodily wind?

I write becasue I believe all these killings are really insane. We don’t kill a child just because he is holding a Koran instead of a Bible. I write because I hate to be manipulated by all these dirty politicians. No matter what ideology one holds, no matter what God one believes. There can’t be any God who teaches us to hit someone before he hits you. I don’t know of any God who teaches us to retaliate. These values are universial - it makes no differences, Occidental or Orient. I am a simple family man. I am not educated enough to preach but I know you understand. “I was really too honest a man to be a politician and live.” ~ Socrates (469-399 BC)
